Last Sunday, we began a dialogue about the current state of the American church and how the book of James is SO TIMELY as a call to action for the body of Christ! Actions speak louder than words. As history has proved, the consequence of inaction can lead to death… The German church in the 1930’s was quite silent in the face of evil. We know what followed. Jesus did not intend for salvation to be a box you check to get into heaven. He came so that we may have life abundant. As believers we are called to live our faith with ACTION just as Christ did and commanded us to do. We live in a divided world of “us” and “them”; of the “haves” and “have nots”. When we allow our differences to influence our attitude, it manifests as partiality or prejudice in our hearts and our actions. James, the brother of Jesus, gives Christian’s a strong warning of the dangers of favoritism in the church. James reminds of God’s loving mercy toward us, regardless of our economic status. And how this should compel us to show mercy to others, regardless of theirs.
